Crispy, golden, and melty, this Air Fryer Grilled Cheese is a faster, easier take on the classic sandwich. Perfectly toasted bread and gooey cheese come together in under 10 minutes using your air fryer—no skillet required.
Ingredients
4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
2 tablespoons softened butter
4 slices of cheddar cheese (or preferred cheese)
Optional: 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (for extra crispiness)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 2-3 minutes.
- Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice. Optionally, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the inside of the slices for extra flavor and crunch.
- Assemble each sandwich by placing two cheese slices between two bread slices, with the buttered sides facing out.
- Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Work in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Remove sandwiches and let cool for about 1 minute before slicing and serving.
Notes
Use a toothpick or small rack to keep the sandwich from moving if your air fryer has strong airflow.
Try different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or pepper jack for variety.
Garlic butter adds extra depth of flavor.
For dairy-free versions, use vegan cheese and butter.
