Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup milk
2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, until just combined.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Toss the apple slices with lemon juice and arrange them on top of the batter.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm or at room temperature.
