Description
This Apple Pie Puff Pastry Bake combines the best of both worlds: the comforting flavors of a classic apple pie and the light, flaky texture of puff pastry. A perfect dessert that's easy to prepare and utterly delicious.
Ingredients
1 package puff pastry (2 sheets)
3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into a rectangle to fit a baking sheet.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the puff pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the apples, forming a rustic edge.
- Brush the exposed edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the apples for extra richness.
- Place the pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Let it cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Slice and serve warm!
Notes
For a richer flavor, caramelize the apples with butter and brown sugar before placing them in the pastry.
Add chopped walnuts or pecans for a bit of crunch.
Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the puff pastry for a spiced crust.
For a vegan version, swap butter for plant-based butter and use a non-dairy egg wash alternative like almond milk.
Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
Freeze the assembled pastry before baking and cook from frozen, adding 5-10 extra minutes to the baking time.
