Description

These Baked Apple Fritters are a healthier twist on the classic deep-fried version, packed with chunks of juicy apple and sweet cinnamon, finished with a light glaze. A comforting fall treat that's quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup milk of choice

2 tbsp melted coconut oil or butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups finely chopped apples (peeled or unpeeled)

Optional: 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

For the glaze:

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp milk of choice

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a muffin tin or baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and optional nutmeg.
  3. Stir in the applesauce, milk, coconut oil or butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined—be careful not to overmix.
  4. Fold in the chopped apples.
  5. Drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking surface, shaping into small mounds.
  6. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, and the tops are lightly golden.
  7. While the fritters bake, whisk together the glaze ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.
  8. Let the fritters cool slightly before drizzling with glaze. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use a plant-based milk (like almond or oat milk) and coconut oil instead of butter.

Add a handful of chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for some added crunch.

Experiment with other spices like ground ginger or cloves to bring in more fall flavors.

If you prefer a sweeter glaze, adjust the powdered sugar in the glaze to taste.

To store: Keep the fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the fridge for up to 5 days.

To reheat: Microwave for 10-15 seconds or warm in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes.
