Ingredients
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
2 cups grated cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a combination)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, and flatten slightly. Add a tablespoon of grated cheese in the center and fold dough around it to form a bun.
- Place buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of buns with milk or a beaten egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown with cheese oozing out.
- Cool slightly before serving.
