Description

This Bubba Gump Shrimp recipe delivers crispy, golden shrimp with a flavorful seasoning blend of garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, inspired by the iconic Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. It's quick, easy, and perfect for a weeknight meal or seafood feast.

Ingredients

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk

Vegetable oil for frying

Lemon wedges, for serving

Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oil in a large frying pan or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and combine it with the buttermilk until smooth.
  4. Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s coated, then dredge it in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat evenly.
  5. Carefully lower the shrimp into the hot oil, cooking in batches if needed. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the shrimp from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Serve with lemon wedges and a sprinkle of fresh parsley for garnish.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add cayenne pepper to the flour mixture or serve with a spicy dipping sauce.

For a lighter version, use an air fryer at 400°F for 7-8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

For a tropical twist, add shredded coconut to the flour mixture to make coconut shrimp.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheat by placing the shrimp in a hot oven (375°F) for 5-7 minutes.
