Description
Candied Frozen Sour Grapes are a refreshing sweet-and-tangy snack made by coating fresh grapes in citrus juice and sugar, then freezing them for a crisp, candy-like finish. They are simple to prepare and perfect for a cool treat on warm days.
Ingredients
2 cups green seedless grapes
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 cup cold water
Ice cubes, for chilling bath
Instructions
- Wash the grapes thoroughly and remove all stems.
- Place the grapes in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes for a quick chill if desired, then drain and pat them completely dry.
- In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice and lime juice together.
- Place the grapes in a large bowl and drizzle the citrus mixture over them. Toss gently so each grape is lightly coated.
- Pour the granulated sugar into a separate bowl. Add the citrus-coated grapes and toss until each grape is fully coated with sugar crystals.
- Spread the coated grapes in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Place the tray in the freezer for about 1 hour, or until the grapes are frozen solid and the coating becomes crisp.
- Serve immediately for the best texture, or transfer the frozen grapes to an airtight container and store in the freezer.
Notes
Red grapes can be used for a sweeter flavor, while green grapes provide a stronger tart contrast.
You can use only lemon juice or only lime juice depending on the citrus flavor you prefer.
Mixing a small amount of superfine sugar with granulated sugar can create a smoother coating.
Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
Let the grapes sit at room temperature for 1–2 minutes before eating if you prefer them slightly softer.
