Description
This cardamom coffee cake is a delightful treat with a warm, spiced flavor and a tender, moist crumb. Perfect for pairing with coffee or tea, its comforting aroma fills your kitchen.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Add the remaining batter and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
- Using a knife or toothpick, gently swirl the cinnamon-sugar into the batter for a marble effect.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
If you want extra crunch, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
For a sweet finish, drizzle a simple powdered sugar glaze over the cooled cake.
Experiment with adding berries or other fruits for a fruity variation.
Feel free to experiment with other spices like nutmeg or allspice to complement the cardamom flavor.
