Description

Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic and elegant dish featuring tender chicken breasts stuffed with savory slices of meat and Swiss cheese, breaded, and baked to golden perfection. It's perfect for any occasion, from a weeknight dinner to a special celebration.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of ham or prosciutto

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them to about 1/2 inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  3. Lay a slice of meat and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, then roll them up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  4. In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Dredge each chicken roll in the flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and then coat it with the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat the olive oil and melted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  7. Brown the chicken rolls in the skillet, turning them to ensure they are evenly browned on all sides (about 4-5 minutes).
  8. Transfer the browned chicken rolls to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  9. Remove the toothpicks before serving.

Notes

Cheese Variations: Try Gruyère or provolone for a different flavor profile.

Meat Options: Prosciutto or turkey can also be used instead of ham.

Stuffing Additions: Add sautéed spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor.

Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes or until heated through.

Freezing: You can freeze unbaked chicken rolls for later use. Bake from frozen, adding extra time as needed.
