Description
A rich and creamy chocolate sour cream frosting with a perfect balance of smooth chocolatey goodness and a tangy twist, ideal for cakes, cupcakes, and brownies.
Ingredients
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk (or more if needed)
Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sour cream and cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Gradually add in the powdered sugar, stirring it in until it’s fully incorporated and smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract, milk, and a pinch of salt, stirring until smooth. Adjust the milk to reach your desired frosting consistency.
- Taste the frosting and adjust the sweetness or cocoa if needed.
- Spread the frosting over your favorite cake, cupcakes, or brownies. Enjoy!
Notes
If the frosting becomes too stiff after chilling, add a splash of milk and stir to loosen it up.
This frosting can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before using.
Adjust the consistency by adding more powdered sugar for thickness or more milk for a thinner frosting.
For variations, you can try adding hazelnut spread, peanut butter, mint extract, or spices like cayenne or cinnamon.
