Description

This creamy tomato basil pasta is a comforting, rich dish with a luscious tomato sauce, fresh basil, and a creamy texture. The combination of garlic, Parmesan, and heavy cream creates a flavor-packed meal that comes together in just 20 minutes. Ideal for busy weeknights or last-minute dinners, this pasta is easy to make, delicious, and customizable to your liking.

Ingredients

12 oz (340g) pasta (penne, fettuccine, or your choice)

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and set it aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, then add the heavy cream and stir to incorporate. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and butter, allowing both to melt completely, creating a smooth sauce.
  6. Toss the cooked pasta into the sauce, making sure it’s fully coated. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh basil. Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

For extra protein, add grilled chicken, shrimp, or crispy bacon.

Experiment with different pasta types such as spaghetti or rigatoni, or try gluten-free pasta options.

Swap Parmesan for Pecorino Romano or mozzarella for a unique flavor twist.

For a spicier dish, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add hot sauce.

Add vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini for a vegetarian version.
