Description

A crispy, flavorful beef stir-fry glazed in a tangy-sweet chili sauce, perfect for anyone craving savory with a bit of spice.

Ingredients

1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup cold water

Vegetable oil for frying

For the Sauce:

1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon garlic, minced

1 tablespoon ginger, minced

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the cold water to the dry ingredients, stirring to form a thick batter.
  3. Add the thinly sliced beef to the batter, making sure every piece is well-coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the battered beef in batches for 3-4 minutes per batch, or until golden and crispy. Set aside on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  5. For the sauce, combine sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl, stirring well to combine.
  6. In the same skillet, heat the sauce over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  7. Add the crispy beef to the skillet and toss everything together to coat the beef in the sauce.
  8. Serve the crispy sweet chili beef with a sprinkle of chopped green onions on top.

Notes

Add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or broccoli for a more well-rounded meal.

Increase red pepper flakes or add fresh chili peppers to make it spicier.

Use chicken or tofu as a substitute for beef.

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free flour and cornstarch mix.

Reduce the sweetness by adjusting the honey or using a sugar alternative.
