Description
Crispy, golden wontons filled with a creamy, savory cream cheese mixture, perfect as a quick appetizer or party snack. These easy cream cheese wontons are pan-fried to perfection and can be baked or air-fried for a lighter twist.
Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 green onions, finely chopped
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 package wonton wrappers (about 40 pieces)
Water, for sealing wrappers
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and salt until smooth and well combined.
- Lay a wonton wrapper flat and place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese filling in the center.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger.
- Fold the wrapper into a triangle or bring all four corners together to seal into a pouch, pressing out any air.
- Repeat with remaining filling and wrappers.
- Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry wontons in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with sweet and sour sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the filling for a spicy kick.
Mix in chopped cooked shrimp or crab for a seafood variation.
For a lighter option, brush wontons with oil and bake at 375°F for 10–12 minutes.
Air fryer method: Cook at 375°F for 6–8 minutes.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in oven or air fryer for crispiness.
Freeze uncooked wontons and fry directly from frozen, adding 1–2 minutes to cook time.
