Description
This easy ravioli lasagna casserole is a shortcut version of traditional lasagna, made by layering frozen cheese ravioli, Italian sausage, marinara sauce, and lots of cheese. It’s a comforting, crowd-pleasing meal that requires minimal prep.
Ingredients
1 lb ground Italian sausage (or ground beef or turkey)
1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
1 (25 oz) bag frozen cheese ravioli (do not thaw)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Spread about 1/2 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Layer half of the frozen ravioli over the sauce.
- Spoon on half of the remaining meat sauce, then sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the rest of the ravioli, meat sauce, and cheeses.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
Notes
You can swap Italian sausage with ground turkey or plant-based sausage for a lighter or vegetarian version.
Add sautéed vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini for extra nutrients.
Try different cheeses like provolone, ricotta, or an Italian blend for variety.
Spicy Italian sausage and spicy marinara add extra heat.
Meat or spinach ravioli can be used instead of cheese ravioli.
