Description

Indulgent German Chocolate Cookie Bars combine the rich, gooey decadence of German chocolate cake with the ease of chewy cookie bars. Featuring a sweet cookie base loaded with chocolate chips, coconut, and pecans, and topped with a creamy homemade coconut-pecan frosting, these dessert bars are the perfect crowd-pleaser for holidays, potlucks, or everyday treats.

Ingredients

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

¾ cup sweetened shredded coconut

¾ cup chopped pecans

4 oz German chocolate, chopped

Frosting:

½ cup heavy cream

1 cup sweetened condensed milk

4 oz German chocolate, chopped

½ cup sweetened shredded coconut

½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, cream butter with brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.

  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in vanilla.

  5. Gradually stir dry ingredients into wet until just combined.

  6. Fold in chocolate chips, coconut, pecans, and chopped German chocolate.

  7. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely in the pan.

  8. Meanwhile, make the frosting: In a saucepan, combine cream, condensed milk, and German chocolate over medium heat. Stir constantly until smooth.

  9. Stir in coconut and pecans. Let cool slightly before spreading over bars.

  10. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

For a deeper chocolate flavor, add 1–2 tbsp dark cocoa powder to the flour mix.

Swap pecans for walnuts for a different nutty twist.

Bars can be topped with a drizzle of chocolate or sea salt after frosting for extra flair.

Store at room temp for 3 days, refrigerated for 1 week, or frozen up to 2 months.
