Description
A warm, spiced non-alcoholic punch inspired by traditional German Glühwein, made with dark grape juice, citrus, and cozy spices. Perfect for winter gatherings or a quiet holiday evening at home.
Ingredients
1 bottle dark grape juice (750 ml)
1 orange, sliced (plus more for garnish)
3 cinnamon sticks
5 whole cloves
2 star anise (optional)
3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
1/4 cup apple juice or pomegranate juice (optional, for extra depth)
Instructions
- Pour the grape juice into a medium saucepan and warm gently over low heat without boiling.
- Add the sliced orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise (if using).
- Stir in the sugar and let the mixture heat on low for 20–30 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- During the last 5 minutes, stir in the apple or pomegranate juice if desired.
- Strain out the spices and orange slices.
- Serve hot in mugs or heatproof glasses, garnishing with a slice of orange or a cinnamon stick.
Notes
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days in a sealed jar or bottle.
Reheat gently over low heat without boiling to preserve flavor.
Customize sweetness by adjusting sugar or using honey/maple syrup.
Add lemon slices or nutmeg for extra citrus or spice.
