Description

These golden fried cinnamon apple rings are a nostalgic fair-style treat with crispy coating and tender apple slices, tossed in cinnamon sugar. Quick, easy, and perfect for dessert or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

4 large apples (such as Gala)

1 cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon baking powder

2 tablespoons sugar

¼ teaspoon salt

⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 large egg, beaten

1 cup buttermilk

Vegetable oil (enough for frying, about 1 inch deep)

⅓ cup sugar (for topping)

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the buttermilk until smooth.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix the ⅓ cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon for the topping and set aside.
  4. Peel, core, and slice the apples into ¼-inch thick rings, removing the central core completely.
  5. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Gradually whisk the wet mixture into the dry ingredients to form a smooth batter.
  7. Dip each apple ring fully in the batter and carefully drop into the hot oil.
  8. Fry the apple rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. While still warm, roll the fried apple rings in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  11. Serve warm, optionally with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh for maximum crispiness.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day.

To reheat, use a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes for best texture.

Try tart apples like Granny Smith for a sharper flavor contrast.

Dust with powdered sugar or cocoa powder for variation.
