Description

A comforting classic dish featuring savory ground beef simmered in rich gravy, served over creamy mashed potatoes. Perfect for a hearty, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

Salt to taste

Optional: mushrooms or peas for added flavor

2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed

4 tbsp butter

1/2 cup milk (or more for creaminess)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Mash the potatoes with butter and milk, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with chopped onion until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Sprinkle flour over beef mixture, stir and cook 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
  6. Gradually pour in beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps and form smooth gravy.
  7. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, black pepper, and optional mushrooms or peas.
  8. Simmer gravy for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  9. Serve mashed potatoes topped generously with beef and gravy mixture.

Notes

For extra creaminess in mashed potatoes, add a splash of cream or sour cream.

Try adding veggies like green peas, diced carrots, or mushrooms to the gravy for variety.

Enhance gravy depth with a splash of red wine or teaspoon of Dijon mustard.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days.

Reheat gravy gently with added broth or water if too thick, mashed potatoes with milk or butter.
