Description

Juicy hamburger steaks are simmered in a creamy dill sauce, creating a hearty, comforting dish with a fresh, herbaceous twist. Perfect for weeknight dinners or impressing guests.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and black pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped (or 2 teaspoons dried dill)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. In the same skillet, melt butter, then stir in flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3–4 minutes until thickened.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, dill, and lemon juice. Simmer for another 2 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon sauce over them, and simmer for 3–4 more minutes.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles, topped with creamy dill sauce.

Notes

Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

Add a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika for extra flavor.

Dried dill can be substituted for fresh—use less of it.

A splash of white wine can deepen the flavor of the sauce.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently with extra cream or broth if needed.
