This Healthy Chinese Ground Beef & Cabbage Stir Fry is a quick, flavorful, and nutritious meal, combining lean ground beef with crunchy cabbage and a delicious balance of savory and slightly sweet Asian-inspired flavors.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
1 small head of cabbage, shredded
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
1 tablespoon soy sauce or coconut aminos
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
Salt and pepper to taste
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef to the pan and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and honey. Let the mixture simmer for 2 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Add the shredded cabbage to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the cabbage softens slightly but still has a nice crunch.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the stir fry hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
This stir fry stores well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha.
To make the recipe vegetarian, replace the ground beef with tofu or tempeh.
