Description

A comforting Mushroom and Swiss Burger Casserole combining savory ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and burger buns, all baked together into a deliciously satisfying dish.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 onion, chopped

8 oz mushrooms, sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded

1 cup beef broth

1 cup sour cream

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 hamburger buns, cubed

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Once cooked, remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and beef broth. Let it simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in sour cream.
  5. In a large casserole dish, layer the cubed hamburger buns at the bottom. Pour the beef mixture over the buns, spreading it evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese over the casserole and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For extra nutrition and flavor, add vegetables like bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini.

If you prefer a different cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, or other meltable cheeses work well.

This casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.

To freeze, cool the casserole completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or foil. It can be frozen for up to 3 months.

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free hamburger buns or bread cubes.
