Description
These Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes combine the comfort of a classic childhood sandwich with bold, gourmet burger flavors. Simmered in a rich sauce with Worcestershire, BBQ, and Dijon, then served on brioche buns with optional cheddar, mushrooms, or crispy onions.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons BBQ sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 cup beef broth (optional for extra sauciness)
4 brioche hamburger buns
4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
Sautéed mushrooms or crispy onions for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 7–8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika. Mix to combine.
- Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add beef broth if desired for extra sauciness.
- While the mixture simmers, toast the brioche buns. If using cheese, place a slice on the bottom bun.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and top with sautéed mushrooms or crispy onions, if desired.
- Serve hot with fries, coleslaw, or a fresh salad.
Notes
Use ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian version.
Add cayenne or chopped jalapeños for extra heat.
For a Tex-Mex version, add chipotle in adobo and pepper jack cheese.
Serve open-faced on sourdough for a knife-and-fork option.
Double the batch and freeze half for easy future meals.
