Description

These Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes combine the comfort of a classic childhood sandwich with bold, gourmet burger flavors. Simmered in a rich sauce with Worcestershire, BBQ, and Dijon, then served on brioche buns with optional cheddar, mushrooms, or crispy onions.

Ingredients

1 lb lean ground beef

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons BBQ sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 cup beef broth (optional for extra sauciness)

4 brioche hamburger buns

4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)

Sautéed mushrooms or crispy onions for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 7–8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika. Mix to combine.
  5. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add beef broth if desired for extra sauciness.
  6. While the mixture simmers, toast the brioche buns. If using cheese, place a slice on the bottom bun.
  7. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and top with sautéed mushrooms or crispy onions, if desired.
  8. Serve hot with fries, coleslaw, or a fresh salad.

Notes

Use ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian version.

Add cayenne or chopped jalapeños for extra heat.

For a Tex-Mex version, add chipotle in adobo and pepper jack cheese.

Serve open-faced on sourdough for a knife-and-fork option.

Double the batch and freeze half for easy future meals.
