Description

Delicious and buttery sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion! Easy to make and ideal for decorating with icing or sprinkles, these cookies have a light texture and a sweet, but not overwhelming flavor. Ingredients

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

1/4 cup white sugar for rolling


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until smooth.

  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until just blended.

  6. Divide the dough into 2 portions and wrap each portion in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.

  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.

  8. Place cookies onto ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sugar.

  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.

  10. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

You can experiment with different extracts (like lemon or almond) for unique flavors.

Add food coloring for a festive touch.

To make them even more indulgent, drizzle with royal icing or a simple glaze after baking.
