Description

A rich, velvety cheese sauce that transforms ordinary fries into a creamy, indulgent treat. Smooth, flavorful, and easy to customize, it is perfect for fries, nachos, and more.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, grated

Salt, to taste

Pepper, to taste

Garlic powder, optional

Paprika, optional

Cayenne pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until fully liquefied.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until bubbly and lightly golden to form a smooth roux.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to keep the mixture smooth and lump-free.
  4. Continue cooking and stirring frequently until the sauce thickens and begins to gently bubble.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the grated cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Mix until fully melted and smooth.
  6. If the sauce is too thick, add a small splash of milk and stir until the desired consistency is reached.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional spices. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving warm.

Notes

For a sharper flavor, use sharp cheddar instead of mild.

Add extra cayenne pepper or a splash of hot sauce for more heat.

Stir in a pinch of smoked paprika for a smoky twist.

A small handful of Parmesan can add deeper flavor.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat gently over low heat, adding a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
