These Baked Hamburgers with Garlic Butter are juicy, flavorful, and incredibly easy to make. I love how they come together in the oven with minimal effort and cleanup. The garlic butter adds a rich, savory finish that takes these burgers to the next level. Whether it’s a weeknight dinner or a casual get-together, these are always a hit.

Baked Hamburgers with Garlic Butter

Ingredients

(Tip: You'll find the full list of ingredients and measurements in the recipe card below.)

1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

4 hamburger buns

4 slices of cheese (optional)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 clove garlic, minced

Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo

Directions

I preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.

In a large bowl, I mix the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. I make sure not to overwork the meat so it stays tender.

I divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns. I press a small dent in the center of each to keep them from puffing up during baking.

I place the patties on the prepared baking sheet and bake them for 18–20 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

While the burgers bake, I mix the melted butter with minced garlic in a small bowl to make the garlic butter.

In the last 2 minutes of baking, I add a slice of cheese to each burger if I'm using it, and return them to the oven just until it melts.

I toast the hamburger buns if I want extra crispiness, then brush the insides with the garlic butter.

I assemble the burgers with my favorite toppings and serve them while they’re hot.

Servings and timing

Each serving contains approximately 410 kcal.

Variations

I sometimes use different cheeses like pepper jack or Swiss for a flavor twist.

For extra richness, I mix a tablespoon of mayo into the meat before forming patties.

I like to make sliders by dividing the meat into 8 smaller patties and using slider buns.

For a spicy kick, I add chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the meat mix.

If I want a low-carb option, I skip the buns and wrap the burgers in lettuce.

Storage/Reheating

If I have leftovers, I store the cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, I warm them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes or in the microwave for 1–2 minutes. I store the garlic butter separately and reheat it gently before brushing on the buns again.

FAQs

Can I freeze the burger patties?

Yes, I freeze the raw patties by placing them on a tray to firm up, then wrapping them individually and storing in a freezer bag. They last up to 3 months.

Can I use leaner ground beef?

I can, but I prefer 80/20 for juicier results. Leaner beef might make the patties drier, so I’d consider adding a little olive oil or grated onion for moisture.

Do I have to toast the buns?

Not at all, but I find toasting them gives a better texture and helps hold the burger together, especially with the garlic butter brushed on.

What can I use instead of Worcestershire sauce?

I sometimes use soy sauce or a mix of soy sauce and a splash of vinegar for a similar umami flavor.

Can I make these burgers ahead of time?

Yes, I form the patties in advance and store them in the fridge for up to a day. I wait to cook them until I’m ready to serve for the best texture.

Conclusion

These baked hamburgers with garlic butter are a weeknight lifesaver and one of my favorite go-to meals. They’re juicy, flavorful, and simple to customize with whatever I have on hand. Whether I’m cooking for my family or making a quick dinner for myself, this recipe never lets me down.
