Description

This Grilled Apple Cheddar Mustard Sandwich is a delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese, offering the perfect balance of savory, tangy, and sweet flavors. Made with sharp cheddar cheese, crisp apple slices, and a dash of Dijon mustard, this sandwich is ideal for a quick lunch or dinner. Enjoy this comforting yet exciting meal that delivers the best of both worlds with its creamy, melty cheese and crispy, buttery bread. A satisfying, flavorful option that's easy to prepare and full of delightful textures.

Ingredients

4 slices whole grain or sourdough bread

4 oz sharp cheddar cheese, sliced

1 apple, thinly sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons butter, softened

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat.

  2. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.

  3. On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread Dijon mustard evenly.

  4. Layer the sharp cheddar cheese and apple slices on top of the mustard.

  5. Place the remaining slices of bread on top of the sandwich, ensuring the buttered sides are facing out.

  6. Grill the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

  7. Remove from heat, cut in half, and serve immediately with a side of pickles or chips.

Notes

For a sweeter touch, add a drizzle of honey over the apple slices before grilling.

If you prefer a bit of heat, sprinkle red pepper flakes on the apple slices or use spicy mustard.

To make this sandwich gluten-free, simply substitute with gluten-free bread.

You can add cooked bacon or turkey for extra protein if desired.
