Description

A classic comfort dish of juicy hamburger patties smothered in rich, savory brown gravy. Perfect for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 packet brown gravy mix (or homemade gravy)

1 1/2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined, then form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties and cook them for about 4-5 minutes per side or until they are browned and cooked through.
  3. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside. In the same skillet, add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and brown gravy mix (or homemade gravy). Stir everything to combine and bring it to a simmer.
  4. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Let them simmer for an additional 5 minutes or until the gravy thickens and the patties are heated through.
  5. Garnish the dish with fresh parsley and serve it hot with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

If desired, substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.

For extra flavor, sautéed mushrooms can be added into the gravy.

Red pepper flakes, hot sauce, Dijon mustard, or horseradish can be incorporated for a spicier or tangier variation.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Hamburger steaks can be frozen for up to 3 months if properly stored in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag.
