Ingredients

For the Cake:

1 cup all-purpose flour

2/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup milk

2 tbsp melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

For the Fudge Sauce:

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1 3/4 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms. If using nuts, fold them in.
  4. Pour into Dish: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Prepare Topping: In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and additional cocoa powder. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  6. Add Hot Water: Gently pour hot water over the mixture (do not stir). This will create the fudge sauce.
  7. Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is set and the sauce is bubbling underneath.
  8. Serve: Let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Nuts: Add walnuts or pecans for a crunchy texture.

Extra Flavor: Stir in chocolate chips or a pinch of cinnamon.

Vegan Option: Use plant-based milk and vegan butter.

Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes.

Freezing: Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
