Description
Hot Honey Fried Shrimp features crispy golden shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy hot honey glaze for an irresistible combination of flavors. Perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or satisfying main course.
Ingredients
1 pound large shrimp, peeled, deveined, tail-on
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Vegetable oil, for frying
1/2 cup hot honey
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Place the shrimp in a medium bowl, pour the buttermilk over them, toss to coat, and marinate for 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Remove each shrimp from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
- Arrange the coated shrimp on a baking sheet while heating the oil.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the cooked shrimp to a paper towel-lined tray to drain excess oil.
- Drizzle the hot honey over the shrimp and gently toss until evenly coated.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve immediately with extra hot honey if desired.
Notes
Add smoked paprika for a deeper smoky flavor.
Mix crushed red pepper flakes into the hot honey for extra heat.
Substitute part of the flour with cornstarch or panko breadcrumbs for additional crunch.
Serve with fries, coleslaw, rice, salad, or in tacos.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat in a 375°F (190°C) oven or air fryer for 5–7 minutes to restore crispiness.
For best results, store the fried shrimp and hot honey separately if making ahead.
