Description

Lumpia is a crispy Filipino spring roll filled with a savory mixture of ground pork, vegetables, and garlic, making it a perfect appetizer or snack for any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a party or enjoying a family meal, this delicious treat will surely delight everyone. Learn how to make this easy, crowd-pleasing recipe with simple ingredients and clear instructions.

Ingredients

1 pound ground pork

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium carrot, grated

1/2 cup cabbage, finely shredded

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 pack lumpia wrappers (or spring roll wrappers)

Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground pork and cook, breaking it apart, until browned.

  2. Add chopped onion and garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in grated carrot and shredded cabbage, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until tender. Season with soy sauce and black pepper, then remove from heat and allow to cool.

  4. Once cooled, place a lumpia wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the pork and vegetable mixture onto the center.

  5. Fold in the sides of the wrapper and tightly roll it around the filling. Seal the edge with a small amount of water.

  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the lumpia in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden and crispy.

  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

You can make lumpia ahead of time by preparing the filling and rolling them up. Refrigerate until ready to fry, or freeze for longer storage.

To make a healthier version, you can bake the lumpia at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until crispy.

If lumpia wrappers are unavailable, substitute with spring roll wrappers.

For a vegetarian option, try substituting the pork with a mix of mushrooms, tofu, and other vegetables.
