Description

Mississippi Mud Pie is a decadent layered dessert with a crunchy chocolate cookie crust, creamy cheesecake-style filling, silky chocolate pudding, and fluffy homemade whipped cream. Marshmallows, pecans, and chocolate shavings add an irresistible finishing touch.

Ingredients

Chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed

Unsalted butter, melted

Cream cheese, softened

Granulated sugar

Instant chocolate pudding mix

Cold milk

Heavy whipping cream

Powdered sugar

Vanilla extract

Mini marshmallows

Chopped pecans

Chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare a pie dish.
  2. Combine the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies with the melted butter until the crumbs are evenly coated.
  3. Firmly press the cookie mixture across the bottom and up the sides of the pie dish to form an even crust.
  4. Bake the crust for 8–10 minutes, then remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.
  5. Beat the softened cream cheese with the granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
  6. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the completely cooled chocolate cookie crust.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk the instant chocolate pudding mix with the cold milk until smooth and thickened.
  8. Spread the chocolate pudding evenly over the cream cheese layer and smooth the surface.
  9. Refrigerate the pie for 20–30 minutes to allow the pudding layer to firm up.
  10. Whip the heavy whipping cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  11. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the chilled pudding layer.
  12. Top with mini marshmallows, chopped pecans, and chocolate shavings.
  13. Refrigerate the completed pie for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra chocolate flavor, add mini chocolate chips between the pudding and whipped cream layers or drizzle the finished pie with chocolate sauce.

Pecans can be replaced with walnuts, almonds, or hazelnuts, or omitted for a nut-free variation when all other ingredients are suitable.

A graham cracker or chocolate graham cracker crust can be used instead of chocolate sandwich cookies.

Prepared whipped topping can replace the homemade whipped cream when needed.

For clean slices, chill the pie thoroughly and wipe a sharp knife clean between cuts.

Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3–4 days. Do not reheat.

The pie can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated until serving. Add delicate garnishes such as chocolate shavings shortly before serving for the freshest appearance.
