Description

A comforting and hearty cheeseburger pie made with seasoned ground beef, onions, and melted Cheddar, topped with a simple batter that bakes to golden perfection.

Ingredients

1 large onion, finely chopped (approximately 1 cup)

450 grams ground beef

0.5 teaspoon salt

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Garlic powder, to taste (optional)

120 grams grated Cheddar cheese (about 1 cup)

65 grams Bisquick baking mix or all-purpose flour (about 0.5 cup)

240 millilitres whole milk (1 cup)

2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and lightly grease a 23 cm glass pie dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion in a little oil until soft, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces, and cook until fully browned, about 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder if using.
  5. Spread the beef and onion mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish and sprinkle the grated Cheddar cheese over the top.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Bisquick (or flour), milk, and eggs until smooth.
  7. Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Add diced pickles or a bit of mustard for a more classic cheeseburger flavor.

Ground turkey can be used instead of beef for a lighter option.

Try different cheeses like mozzarella, Colby, or pepper jack.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze individual slices.

Reheat in the oven for best texture or microwave for convenience.
