Description
A comforting and hearty cheeseburger pie made with seasoned ground beef, onions, and melted Cheddar, topped with a simple batter that bakes to golden perfection.
Ingredients
1 large onion, finely chopped (approximately 1 cup)
450 grams ground beef
0.5 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste (optional)
120 grams grated Cheddar cheese (about 1 cup)
65 grams Bisquick baking mix or all-purpose flour (about 0.5 cup)
240 millilitres whole milk (1 cup)
2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C and lightly grease a 23 cm glass pie dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion in a little oil until soft, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces, and cook until fully browned, about 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder if using.
- Spread the beef and onion mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish and sprinkle the grated Cheddar cheese over the top.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the Bisquick (or flour), milk, and eggs until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Add diced pickles or a bit of mustard for a more classic cheeseburger flavor.
Ground turkey can be used instead of beef for a lighter option.
Try different cheeses like mozzarella, Colby, or pepper jack.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze individual slices.
Reheat in the oven for best texture or microwave for convenience.
