Description
This restaurant-style salsa is fresh, vibrant, and packed with classic Mexican-inspired flavors. It comes together in minutes and is perfect for dipping, topping tacos, or serving alongside your favorite dishes.
Ingredients
800 g canned diced tomatoes, drained
1 small red onion, roughly chopped
1 jalapeño, seeded if desired
2 cloves garlic
1/2 cup fresh cilantro
2 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Add the drained diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, garlic, and fresh cilantro to a food processor or blender.
- Add the lime juice, ground cumin, salt, black pepper, and sugar.
- Pulse several times until the salsa reaches your preferred consistency, keeping it slightly chunky for a restaurant-style texture.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or lime juice if needed.
- Transfer the salsa to a serving bowl and refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, grilled meats, nachos, or other Mexican-inspired dishes.
Notes
Substitute fresh ripe tomatoes for canned tomatoes when in season, removing excess juice if needed.
For extra heat, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add another jalapeño. For a milder salsa, remove all the seeds or use less pepper.
Add roasted tomatoes or roasted garlic for a smoky flavor.
Mix in diced mango, pineapple, or corn for a sweeter variation.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freeze for up to 3 months, thaw overnight in the refrigerator, and stir before serving.
Serve chilled; do not reheat.
