Tater Tot Chicken Casserole is the ultimate comfort food—rich, creamy, and full of flavor. This hearty dish combines tender chicken, savory vegetables, crispy tater tots, and a cheesy, creamy sauce that brings everything together.
Ingredients
4 cups cooked chicken, shredded
1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup frozen peas and carrots
1/2 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Add the shredded chicken, frozen peas and carrots, and 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese to the bowl. Mix everything together until well combined.
- Pour the chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the chicken mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes, or microwave individual portions with a damp paper towel.
For a lighter version, swap sour cream for Greek yogurt and use a lower-fat cream of chicken soup.
If preparing ahead of time, cover the casserole with foil and refrigerate until ready to bake.
This casserole can be frozen, assembled but not baked, for up to 3 months. Bake from frozen at 375°F (190°C) for about 1 hour.
