A Greek Chicken Bowl is a delicious, nutritious, and flavorful meal that brings the tastes of Greece right to your table. With marinated grilled chicken, crisp vegetables, and a tangy homemade tzatziki sauce, it's perfect for anyone looking for a healthy yet satisfying meal. Whether you're making this for a quick dinner or meal prepping for the week, this dish is sure to please.

Greek Chicken Bowls

Ingredients

2 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup cooked quinoa or rice

1 cucumber, diced

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

½ red onion, thinly sliced

¼ cup Kalamata olives, pitted and chopped

¼ cup crumbled feta cheese

For the tzatziki sauce:

½ cup plain Greek yogurt

¼ cup cucumber, grated and excess moisture squeezed out

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 garlic clove, minced

1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

(Tip: You'll find the full list of ingredients and measurements in the recipe card below.)

Directions

In a bowl, combine olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub this marinade onto the chicken breasts and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Grill the chicken for 6-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and juices run clear. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

In a small bowl, mix together all the tzatziki sauce ingredients. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.

Assemble the bowls by dividing the cooked quinoa or rice between bowls. Top with sliced chicken, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red onion, olives, and feta cheese.

Drizzle with the homemade tzatziki sauce and serve.

Servings and Timing

Storage/Reheating

I recommend storing the components separately if you’re meal prepping for the week. The chicken, quinoa or rice, and veggies can be stored in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. The tzatziki sauce should also be stored in a separate container and can last up to 3 days in the fridge.

To reheat, simply microwave the chicken and quinoa or rice, then top with the fresh veggies and tzatziki sauce. This dish is best served with fresh toppings, so I don’t usually reheat the cucumbers, tomatoes, and olives.

FAQs

Can I use chicken thighs instead of breasts?

Absolutely! Chicken thighs are a great substitute and will add extra flavor and juiciness to the dish. Just make sure to adjust the cooking time as needed since thighs may take a little longer to cook.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes! This recipe is perfect for meal prep. I often prepare everything except the tzatziki sauce ahead of time and store the components in separate containers in the fridge. The tzatziki sauce can be made fresh or stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Is the tzatziki sauce necessary for this recipe?

While the tzatziki sauce really elevates the dish with its cool and creamy texture, you can skip it if you prefer or substitute it with a different dressing or dip of your choice, like hummus or a lemon vinaigrette.

Can I make this dish gluten-free?

Yes, this recipe is naturally gluten-free if you use quinoa or gluten-free rice. Just be sure to double-check any pre-packaged ingredients, such as the tzatziki sauce or feta cheese, to ensure they are gluten-free.

What can I serve this dish with?

This Greek Chicken Bowl is a complete meal on its own, but if you’d like to add a little more variety, you can serve it with a side of roasted vegetables, a simple Greek salad, or some warm pita bread.

Conclusion

Greek Chicken Bowls are an easy and satisfying way to enjoy the vibrant flavors of Greece. Whether you're in the mood for a healthy dinner or looking to prep meals for the week, this dish is both delicious and versatile. The marinated grilled chicken pairs perfectly with fresh veggies, and the creamy tzatziki sauce adds just the right touch of tang. With simple ingredients and minimal prep time, it's the perfect meal for any occasion!
