Description
These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine savory ground beef, colorful bell peppers, sweet onions, and melted provolone cheese into a rich, hearty sandwich that's ready in just 25 minutes. It's a quick, family-friendly dinner inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak.
Ingredients
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 pound ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon butter
4 hamburger buns, toasted
4 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and onion. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Mix in the garlic, soy sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the mixture thickens and the flavors combine.
- Place the provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture and allow them to melt completely.
- Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve immediately.
Notes
Substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter version.
Add sliced mushrooms for extra savory flavor.
Try mozzarella, white American, cheddar, or Monterey Jack instead of provolone.
Add diced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
Serve the filling over baked potatoes, rice, or fries instead of buns.
Store leftover filling in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of broth or water if needed, or microwave in 30-second intervals.
Toast fresh buns before serving for the best texture.
