Southern Peach Bread with Pecan Praline Topping

Ingredients

(Tip: You'll find the full list of ingredients and measurements in the recipe card below.)

For the bread:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup fresh peaches, diced

½ cup sour cream

¼ cup milk

For the pecan praline topping:

½ cup brown sugar, packed

¼ cup unsalted butter

¼ cup heavy cream

½ cup pecans, chopped

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the sour cream and milk. Stir until just combined.

Gently fold in the diced peaches.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the bread is baking, make the pecan praline topping. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Stir in the chopped pecans and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Once the bread is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

Drizzle the pecan praline topping over the warm bread. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.

Variations

While I love the combination of peaches and pecans, there are a few variations you can try with this recipe:

Other Fruits: Swap the peaches with other fresh fruits like pears, apples, or even berries for a different flavor twist.

Nuts: If you’re not a fan of pecans, try walnuts or almonds for a change in texture and taste.

Spices: Experiment with adding different spices like nutmeg or allspice for a unique depth of flavor.

Storage/Reheating

To store, simply wrap the bread in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. It will keep at room temperature for about 2-3 days. If you want to extend its shelf life, store it in the fridge for up to a week. To reheat, I recommend slicing a piece and microwaving it for about 20-30 seconds, or warming it up in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-10 minutes.

FAQs

How do I know when the peach bread is done baking?

I always check with a toothpick inserted into the center. If it comes out clean or with just a few crumbs, the bread is ready!

Can I use canned peaches instead of fresh ones?

Fresh peaches give the best flavor and texture, but if you use canned peaches, be sure to drain them well before adding them to the batter.

Can I make this bread ahead of time?

Yes! This bread actually tastes even better the next day after the flavors have had time to meld together. Just store it in an airtight container, and it will stay fresh.

Can I freeze this bread?

Absolutely! You can freeze the bread by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap or foil and placing it in a freezer bag. It should last for about 2-3 months. To reheat, thaw it at room temperature and warm it up in the oven.

Can I make the pecan praline topping ahead of time?

Yes! You can make the praline topping ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week. Just warm it up slightly before drizzling over the bread.

Conclusion

Southern Peach Bread with Pecan Praline Topping is the epitome of comfort baking. The moist bread filled with juicy peaches, combined with the rich, sweet praline topping, makes it a standout treat for any occasion. Whether you’re making it for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, this bread will surely be a crowd-pleaser. With a few simple ingredients and easy steps, it’s a recipe that I know I’ll be making again and again. Enjoy!
